Memorial

Today one year ago you bid us farewell to be with your maker. Though painful as it is, we exalt God and continue to thank Him for the time He allowed us to be with you.

Peter, the love and joy that you  shared reminds us of how blessed we were to have you in our lives.

You shall always remain in our hearts and mind. Rest in God's presence till we meet again.

Peter's ashes shall be rested today 6th April 20l2 at his shamba in Mamboleo, Kisumu. On 7th April 20l2, a memorial prayer shall be held for Mama Carolina Bagala Oduol at her home in Manyatta, Kisumu.

The Lord is my Shepard I shall not want....- Psalms 23.

You were a great man and I cherish all moments I ever shared with you. A highly accomplished scholar, you were so humble. May the good Lord rest your soul in peace

I had not come to terms with the Passing of Dr. Oduol following his well publicised cremation. I worked with him during my formative years at IGAD in Djibouti, 1999-2001. The more I think about it, I feel sorry we did not meet again after his departure from IGAD. His departure was acrimonious and we really complained about how Dr. Tekeste Ghebray, then Executive Secretary of IGAD handled him. I got to know that Peter was a courageous man who did not hesitate to speak out against injustice. I remember the many hours we spend together eating fish at the shores of the red sea or eating njera at the Ethiopian club. Peter was always cheerful and kept us entertained. Unfortunately I do not know any of his family members. I wish to take this opportunity to convey my deepest condolences for his passing on at such an early age. I also admire the unconventional manner in which he was interred. I wish the family members solace at this time of great grief. May the good lord shower you all with his blessings. Fare thee well my good friend Dr. Peter Allan Oduol. You were a great man.

I learnt with shock and disbelieve of the passing on of my friend Dr. Peter Allan Oduol. I wish to pass my condolences to the  Wife and Children and the entire Oduol family of the late Peter.

I first interacted with Peter when he was working as a scientist at ICRAF from 1987 and later got to work with him in his proffessional capacity in agroforestry tree improvement programs.  Later on we met with Peter at the University of Edinburgh, where he was studying for a PhD while I was doing and M.Sc. in the same department. We worked together on our thesis projects as graduate students at the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology (ITE), Bush Estate, Edinburgh.

I can only say that Peter was a very intelligent man, hardworking and jovial. He was very resourcesful, and very ecouraging indeed during our time in Edinburgh. It is unfortunate that I got to learn of his death after he had been was cremated. I however wish the family and friend God's favour even as you learn to leave without Peter. My the good Lord fill your hearts with love, peace and smiles which was common features in Peter's life. My God keep you and comfort you even as you go through this very challenging time of leaving without Peter. My prayer for you is to have strength and the peace of God which surpasses all human understanding. Be encouraged that in eternity you will get to meet and see him again.

Amen
