It is with deep sorrow, the greatest sadness and humble acceptance of God's will that we announce the passing on of Benjamin (Ben) Mwangi, 37 y.o. of San Diego, California by way of Thika, Kenya. Ben's sudden and unexpected demise occured in the early morning of Tuesday March 24, 2009.
Ben was the son of the late Paul Mwangi Githu and the late Alice Nduta Paul.
Ben was a loving husband to Mary Spring-Mwangi (San Diego, CA) and loving father to Kozette Mwangi, 8 & Mary-Spring's daughter Kylie, 17.
Brother to Wanjihia (Kenya), the late Oss, Jimmie (Philadelphia), Njau (Philadelphia), Rosemary (Congo), Kimemia (Kenya), Wanyoike (Kenya), Muchai Githu (Chee)-Kenya, Maggie (San Diego), Waitherero (Kenya), Nyambura (Kenya), Bosco (Iraq), Beatrice (Kenya), and Scola (San Diego).
Loving uncle to Kioni Wa Waithaka, David Kahugu, Philip Kinyanjui, Sylviah Kimani 'pajeroh', Nicole Nikïï Ndutah 'Pajeroh', Georgina Muchai, Ida Kui Njenga 'pajeroh', Mishy 'pajeroh' Ndutah, Mwangi Gythu, Albert Wanjihia, Alexander Wanjihia, Bob Mugo, Paul Mugo, Shiku Gatimi, Martin Njau, Jemimah Kui Kioni and Fred Kioni.
Ben was loved and respected by many. Friends described him as a guy who was always happy, full of life and a people person. Ben opened his home to many, helpfully reached out to all and loved all. He'll forever remain in ours hearts and our thoughts.Ben was a star that shone here on earth and even now we feel him shining down on us from heaven.
Ben worked as a maintenance foreman, a supervisory position at the MTS in San Diego. He encountered his death at work in the early morning of March 24th, 2009 when a colleague opened fire shooting Ben and another co-worker. Ben who worked the graveyard shift at the MTS died at the scene. Ben also owned a private Smog business called Mwangi Smog Test in Spring Valley, where his sole employee, Diego described him as “a good guy, a good father.”
In San Diego, family and friends are meeting at Ben's home in Lemon Grove trying to come to grips with this terrible tragedy. We are requesting all our Kenyan friends all over to keep us in prayers and support us as we celebrate Ben's life and put him to rest.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday March 28th, 2009 for Ben N. Mwangi. The service will be held at the Christian Church of Lemon Grove 6970 San Miguel Ave Lemon Grove, CA 91945 from 1pm to 5pm.
