Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. ~ GOETHE. Written on a postcard I last received from Dr. Absalom Mutere, in September 10, 2010. He was a great leader, an inspiration for all us, skilled and passionate with regard to bridging community generation gaps, and will be greatly missed. I am stationed in Manus, Papua New Guinea, and I just heard about Dr. Mutere's passing from a colleague while we watching the Seven Rugby Las Vegas (USA). Brother, "May the Earth rest softly on you."

I was extremely saddened today to discover, while I inquired about him at the University of Nairobi, that AM had passed away. I met him at Kent State University, Ohio, where we were both students - he Kenyan and I Ugandan. He met his first wife Anne there and made rugby popular. We spent many a day in discussions of East African politics and personalities in politics. I will miss him immensely! |

As both Ayanda's and Julia's second grade teacher, I had the priviledge of meeting Dr. Absalom Mutere shortly after his return to to teach at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, USA. His concern and caring for his children was genuine, and I am honored to have made his acquaintance. May your family find peace in memories... |

I only knew you as Ayanda's dad when I taught her piano lessons while we were at Hiram College. I hope that she holds great memories of you! |
